2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV Safety and Technology
The Flagship Seven-Passenger EV SUV
Mercedes-Benz began producing the 2023 EQS SUV in late August, with an expected delivery date later this year. The flagship seven-passenger SUV and the mid-size EQE SUV are manufactured in Tuscaloosa, Alabama – keeping the high-tech electric vehicles close to the battery plant.
The EQS SUV will have similar technology and safety features as the flagship sedan. The seats in the SUV sit higher, and the interior has three rows with seating for seven. With the release of the Mercedes-Benz: All-electric vehicles, the automaker shows its intense dedication to setting the standard for luxury electric vehicles of all sizes.
Technology-Driven Fully-Electric SUV
The EQS SUV technology begins “under the hood” as the propulsion system will feature a single-motor and dual-motor model. The EQS 450+ will have a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 355 horsepower and 419 lb-ft of torque. The dual-motor model – the EQS 580 4Matic – will have an electric motor on each axle, and the all-wheel-drive system will create 536 horsepower and 633 lb-ft of torque. The battery pack that powers these motors should deliver an EPA-estimated range between 300 to 350 miles. With a DC Fast Charging system, the EQS SUV battery should add about 70% range in around 30 minutes.
On the inside, it doesn’t get any better than the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV technology. The standard technology features include a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice recognition, augmented-reality navigation, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and a 15-speaker Burmester surround-sound stereo.
Buyers who choose the EQS 580 4Matic get the Hyperscreen – a solid piece of glass that stretches across the dash. It includes a 17.7-inch touchscreen in the center, a passenger-side 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation cluster. Additional available tech features include infotainment gesture control, rear wireless device charging, 64-color ambient lighting, a tablet for the rear passengers to control the infotainment system, and a universal garage door opener.
Filled with Driver-Assistive Technology
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV safety features are standard across the propulsion systems and three trim levels. The Premium trim will have features that include Front and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Change Assist, Driver Attention Monitoring, Forward and Reverse Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Stop-and-Go Adaptive Cruise Control, Car-to-X Communication, and several parking-assist systems.
With so many driver-assistive features, the Mercedes-Benz EQS models have a semi-autonomous driving system. For additional safety on the road, drivers can add a Head-Up Display or an Augmented-Reality Head-Up Display.
